7 days Birding: Mabamba, Lake Mburo, Queen Elizabeth - Avian Watching Africa
Day 1 Entebbe
Arrive at Entebbe International airport to meet our company representative who will transfer you to the proposed accommodation. Depending on the time of arrival you may be taken for a city drive to explore some of the nice places in Kampala. Dinner and overnight at Imperial botanical beach Hotel / Entebbe Resort Beach Hotel / Windsor Lake Victoria Hotel or Golf course Apartment
Day 2 Whole day birding - Mabamba
Early in the morning transfer to Mabamba Village a place that harbours plenty of bird species. When you reach the wetland you will go for a dugout canoe ride on the wetland that will enable you search and view the different bird species. Expect birds like Swamp fly catcher, sported eagle awl, Greater sand plover, pied king fisher, Slender billed gull, Crowned hornbill, Caruthers’s cisticola, Common tern, and the rare Shoebill. You will then transfer to Kampala to have dinner and spend the night at Hotel Africana / Sheraton Hotel.
Day 3 Lake Mburo National Park
Drive west of Uganda to Lake Mburo National park to bird along the way and arrive in the afternoon. You will bird around the Entrance of the park and Rwonyo camp the rest of the afternoon. Watch out for birds like Red winged Francolin, lesser and greater moorhen, White winged warbler, northern black tit, Chin-spot Batis, Nubian woodpecker, Lilac breasted Roller and many more. Dinner and overnight at Mantana Luxury Tented Camp or Rwonyo Camp.
Day 4 Lake Mburo National Park
Have breakfast to go for early morning birding in the park to catch up with birds like Red faced barbet, Black-collared Barbet, Narina Trogon, Nightjars, Green capped Eremomelia, Black Cuckoo-shrike, Coqui Francolin, Temminck’s Courser, African wattled plover and many more. After lunch you will go for a boat cruise on the lake to look out for birds like Pied and Malachite Kingfishers, Yellow throated Leaflove, African fin foot, African water rail, spur winged plover, African Darter and many more.
Day 5 Lake Mburo National Park - Queen Elizabeth National Park
Wake up to have breakfast and go for more birding in this park before you transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park. You will have a lunch stop in Mbarara town to reach in the afternoon. You will bird around the Mweya peninsula in the afternoon to search for birds like Red chested sunbird, Pin tailed Whydah and Brimstone Canary, Weavers, Grey carped warbler and many more. Dinner and overnight at Mweya Safari Lodge.
Day 6 Queen Elizabeth National Park
You will have breakfast and transfer to Kasenyi track where you will bird the whole morning. On this tract you should expect birds like Stocks, raptors and variety of vultures. In the afternoon you will then go for a launch cruise on the Kazinga channel which provides variety of waterbirds both resident and migrants. This trip also offers you an opportunity to view animals like hippos, elephants and buffaloes. On the Kazinga channel expect birds like Great white and pink backed Pelicans, Common Squacco Heron, African Open-billed Stork, African Jacana, African Fish Eagle, White-faced Whistling and Knob-billed Ducks, Swamp Flycatcher and many more. Dinner and overnight at Mweya Safari Lodge/ Jacana Lodge.
Day 7 Queen Elizabeth National Park - Kampala
Early, have breakfast to go for more birding in the park-Kyambura gorge track. Expect birds like the spectacular black bee eater, Blue breasted king fisher, Black and African Black Emerald Cuckoos, Speckled Tinkerbird, green Hylia, White-spotted Flufftail and many more. Later you will then drive back to Kampala to have a stop in Mbarara for lunch and then proceed to reach in the late afternoon. Dinner and overnight at Sheraton / Serena /Hotel Africana.
